Facebook pulls the plug on Lite

Bangalore, Apr 22: Just seven months after launching Facebook Lite, the social networking giant has pulled the plug on its new stripped down version.

The Lite site was launched in Sep 2009 for Facebook users with slow internet connections.

The Facebook Lite URL now redirects the users to the full version of Facebook.

On the official fan page, Facebook thanked Lite users and confirmed that the site has been shut.

"Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We're no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you'll now be taken to the main Facebook.com site," the company said.

However, there are no details on the reasons behind the sudden shut down of Facebook Lite.
