Ahmedabad: Dumped foetuses were specimens
Ahmedabad, Apr 21: Clearing doubts on possibility of female feticide being conducted here, the police has informed that the 14 foetuses found dumped in a garbage bin near the Lalbahadur Shashtri Stadium on Monday, Apr 19 were specimens.
“Post-mortem of the foetuses showed that they were specimens, as are often kept at medical colleges and clinics," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajaykumar Chaudhary said.
The police has also arrested a gynaecologist, identified as Dr Jayanti Patel, on Tuesday, Apr 20 in connection with the case.
The accused doctor told the police that while clinic was being cleaned some jars containing the specimen foetuses were damaged accidentally.
The police has booked Dr Patel for unhygienic disposal of bio-medical waste. Police ruled out the angle of illegal sex-selective abortion.
The questioning is still on.
According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials the doctor closed down the clinic three weeks ago. However, the foetuses were found by the locals earlier this week.
