BJP protest against price rise causes traffic jam

New Delhi, Apr 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 'maharally' against price rise caused traffic chaos on Wednesday, Apr 21. Thousands of BJP workers took to the streets in the Capital in protest against the rising price rise.

According to the BJP leaders an estimated 300,000 people are expected to gather at the Ramlila Maidan for the rally.

As per plan, some 10,000 BJP activists will proceed towards the Jantar Mantar through Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Tolstoy Marg and Sansad Marg around 2 pm, after the rally, which could worsen the traffic movement.

The areas which have been most affected include Ring Road, Mathura Road, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Netaji Subhash Marg, Ranjit Singh Marg, Tolstoy Marg, Sikandra Road, Barakhamba Road, Parliament Street and Ashoka Road.

Earlier on Tuesday, Apr 20, the party appealed to the Delhiites to bear with the traffic chaos from 10 am to 6 pm.

The rally is expected to be addressed by senior BJP leaders like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and newly elected party leader Nitin Gadkari.

The rally, which is the biggest mass rally held by the party so far under Gadkari's leadership, will mark the culmination of the protests held in other states by the party against price rise.
