British rape victim faces jail in Dubai

London, Apr 20: A Dubai court may be sending a rape victim to jail instead of the accused as the woman indulged in drinking and sex outside marriage.

A British woman who claims to have been raped during her night out in Dubai may be facing jail, reported The Sun.

The victim may invite punishment for committing the crimes of drinking and having sex outside marriage if she does not prove to the court that she was raped.

While the accused man maintains that the woman had agreed to sleep with him, the woman told the police that the man raped her after taking her into the desert.

The woman claims that the man offered her lift while she was enjoying a night out with her friends at the Dubai Marina. Besides raping her in the desert, the man also reportedly forced himself on her in her flat.

“She told police she screamed and cried out begging him to stop during both attacks which were entirely against her will. She went straight to the nearest police station and reported the attack at 3.20 am the same day.

“The case will be heard before a judge who will decide who is telling the truth, but the girl may face difficulties if her story is not believed. She is still regarded as the victim, though she has already admitted being drunk, which is itself an offence in Dubai," a Dubai court source is quoted as saying.
