President accepts Shashi Tharoor's resignation
Pune, Apr 19: The President has accepted the resignation of Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, who stepped down from his post on Sunday, Apr 18 night in the wake of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Kochi controversy.
Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson has announced that Pratibha Patil has accepted Tharoor's resignation from the Council of Ministers on the recommendation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“The President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister has accepted the resignation of Shashi Tharoor, MoS in MEA from the council of ministers with immediate effect," the spokesperson said.
The President is in Pune on an official visit.
Shashi Tharoor tendered resignation after the Prime Minister asked him to step down.
The Minister was shown the door as the high-level Congress Core Group found Tharoor's defense against the IPL allegations as unsatisfactory.
