IPL: Home ministry puts Maha police on alert
Mumbai, Apr 19: With the IPL semifinals being shifted to Mumbai from Bangalore due to the Saturday, Apr 17 bomb scare, the Home Ministry has reportedly put the Maharashtra police on high alert.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, Apr 18 decided to shift the Apr 21 and Apr 22 matches out of Bangalore following the blasts and recovery of explosive material at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
A low intensity blast near the stadium took place just minutes ahead of an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. Following this, the police recovered a bomb that was meant to go off at 8 pm, raising fears that the spectators were the targets.
According to media reports, the Home Ministry has indicated that Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium may also not be a very safe place to hold the IPL semi-finals.
