Buying porn CDs, DVDs as easy as purchasing apples in Karachi
Karachi, Apr.15 (ANI): Karachi, Pakistan's financial capital has virtually turned into a hub where pornographic CDs and DVDs can be accessed as easily as one buys apples from a fruit vendor.
With almost no check on the illegal trade, city's busy Saddar area's Rainbow Centre, which boasts of being Asia's biggest CD and DVD market, is the place where one can purchase porn movies with utmost ease.
Dozens of shops, which are decorated with posters of Indian movie stars, in this shopping centre cater to the needs of people who want some sleazy entertainment.
While the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) monitors television for documentaries on reproductive health, the fact that even a child can buy objectionable videos for mere 30 rupees goes unnoticed here, The Daily Times reports.
Despite most people turning to the Internet to watch porn films, the CD business is on rise in the city and across Pakistan.
When asked about the reasons behind it a shopkeeper, who own a shop in the Rainbow centre, said: " People of older generation do not know how to use computers."
Defending the sale of porn videos, another shopkeeper pointed out that the country's conservative society was to be blamed, as it does not allow men and women to meet in public and sit together and enjoy.
"In this conservative Pakistani society, men and women are not even allowed to sit together in public places and there are no dating spots or dancing clubs; therefore, most teenagers and even older citizens find pornography as the best entertainment," he said. (ANI)
