China: 7.1 magnitude earthquake kills 400

The
death
toll
of
the
Qinghai
earthquake
has
been
put
up
at
400
while
the
number
of
injured
has
been
pegged
to
over
1000.
As per the latest inputs, the 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Yushu prefecture at a depth of 33 km on Wednesday, Apr 14 morning at around 7.49 am.
As many as 18 aftershocks are said to have followed.

Series of quakes hit China, 67 killed
China was hit by a series of strong earthquakes on Wednesday, Apr 14 morning killing at least 67 people and sending several building crashing down.
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck northwestern province of Qinghai, near Tibet, which was followed by three earthquakes, said US Geological Survey website. The temblor hit the epicenter at 07:49:37 am on Wednesday, Apr 14.
Many are said to be buried under the debris and the rescue efforts are on. Lack of means of communication is hindering the operations.
Several houses and monasteries have been destroyed and officials estimate a loss of 300 lives.
