TN will not allow Bt Brinjal, its final: Minister
Chennai, Apr 13: Stressing that the Chief Minister Karunanidhi's decision on Bt Brinjal was final, the state agriculture minister Veerapandi S Arumugam on Tuesday, Apr 13 told the assembly that the genetically modified vegetable will not be cultivated in the state.
“The chief minister had said the state will not allow Bt Brinjal. And that is the final word. We will not allow (cultivation) of Bt Brinjal," Arumugam said.
The genetically modified brinjal has been opposed by various organisations, health experts and NGOs on concerns of its effects not only on human health but also on the soil.
