Smita Thackeray set to join Congress
New Delhi, Apr 13: In what comes as a major embarrassment for the Bal Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, the supremo's daughter-in-law Smita Thackeray is all set to join Congress.
The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has reportedly confirmed that Smita Thackeray will be joining Congress.
"Smita Thackeray is on way to joining the Congress," MPCC spokesperson and former minister Hussain Dalwai told a news agency.
"I cannot tell exactly when she would join but she is on way to joining the party," he informed in response to a question.
However, some media reports state that the 48-year-old Thackeray bahu will be joining the party on Apr 15.
"The fact that Smita is on way to Congress shows that after Bal Thackeray there is no one in Sena whose leadership people trust," the spokesperson added.
Smita's decision to join the Congress emerged in Nov 2009. Sena's vandalisms and parochial politics along with the feeling of being marginalised in the Thackeray household inspired Bal Thackeray's daughter-in-law to take his step.
