Heat wave sweeps across N India, over 53 killed

New Delhi, Apr 12: As the mercury rises, heat wave is sweeping across various north Indian states paralyzing normal life.

States such as Uttar Pradesh, Chhattishgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi are reeling under the intense heat.

As per an All India Radio report, as many as 50 people have died in Uttar Pradesh over the past few days in fire incidents, which are on a rise due to the high temperatures. In Gorkhapur, fires threaten not only lives but also crops in rural areas.

Quoting officials from the Weather office, the report said that Delhi is set to breach 42 degree mark on Monday, Apr 12 and that the temperature will likely hover around 43 degree Celsius.

In Chhattisgarh, the heat has claimed lives of three children in the Korba district over the last three days.

Madhya Pradesh is also sweating on soaring temperatures.

In Jharkhand as the temperature reached above 40 degrees, the authorities decided to change school timings.

Even down South, there is no respite from the heat as temperatures hit new highs in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
