JK: Govt employees continue protests
Srinagar, Apr 10: Protests continue to mar Jammu and Kashmir as the government employees continue their agitation demanding the release of arrears as per the sixth pay commission along with the increment on the retirement age from 58 to 60.
Clashes broke out between the protestors and the police personnel as the police tried everything to bring the law and order situation under control.
The strike and the protests have been on for a week now despite the government's move to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the state.
As per ESMA, the protests now being held by the government employees is illegal.
The government has now threatened that if the protests don't end and if the employees do not return to work immediately then their salaries will be cut.
