UP police baton charge protesting Kanpur lawyers
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 8 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh police baton-charged the protesting lawyers at the Kanpur district court premises here on Thursday.
The lawyers in return pelted stones at the police personnel and damaged two official vehicles of two judges.
"We have put our 11-point demand. (Action should be taken against) whether he is administrative officer or a judicial officer (responsible for this). How come police entered here (in court premises)?" said Bar Association President Indu Bhushan Singh.
"Which officer ordered baton-charge on lawyers? We are going to take strong action against this. We are on protest," he added.
On Wednesday, over 20 people were injured in a major clash involving lawyers and policemen at the Kanpur district court premises.
The turbulence began when some lawyers mishandled a police inspector, who had come from Kannauj to appear as a witness in a case.
The lawyers alleged that the police inspector had pointed a gun at one of them.
District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat has, however, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. (ANI)
