Nepal, China resolve Mt. Everest's height issue
Kathmandu, Apr 8(ANI): Nepal and China have agreed to recognise Mt. Everest's snow and rock heights and reconcile disparities over the height of the world's tallest peak.
The agreement came during a Joint Secretary-level meeting between the two countries in Kathmandu.
"Since Everest lies on the Nepal-China boundary line, we have to identify its location and height," The Kathmandu Post quoted a senior official at Nepal's Department of Survey, as saying.
"The Chinese side, led by Li Qingyuan, accepted Nepal's claim that the snow height of Mt. Everest is 8,848m, while the Nepali side recognised the Chinese claim that the rock height of the ountain is 8,844.43m," an official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added. (ANI)
