Vijaykanth's Captain TV to hit airwaves on Apr 14

Bangalore, Apr 7: After DMK supremo Karunanidhi and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, DMDK leader Vijaykanth will also effective enter into the sphere of media by launching his own 24-hour news and entertainment channel, Captain TV this month.

While Captain TV is expected to hit the airwaves on Apr 14, the actor-turned-politician has already launched dry run of his channel from Mar 15.

The news of the star's plans of starting a TV channel of his own emerged in 2008 itself. Vijaykanth is believed to have been working hard ever since to ensure the quality content for the audiences.

The channel will cater to all sectors of the Tamil society with an array of shows, programs, serials and movies.

The logo of the channel was released on Jan 14, the day the state celebrates Tamil New Year or Pongal. The logo bears a lot of resemblance to the DMDK flag.

Captain TV also will not be any different from any other channel owned by people with political interests. The channel is expected to work as the mouthpiece for Vijaykanth and his party.

Tamil Nadu has a slew of TV channels owned by politicians. While DMK owns Sun TV Network, recently launched Kalaignar TV is owned by Karunanidhi"s immediate family. AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa owns another major TV network, Jaya TV.
