MPs effort to honor Fallen Armed Forces blocked
Bangalore, Apr 6: Fallen Armed Forces heroes from Karnataka, who have served and died for the nation since Independence, continue to fight for recognition as the proposed National Memorial Military Park still faces opposition from various sectors.
The proposed Memorial Park 'Veera Gallu' is an imposing and traditional monolithic monument which will symbolize the strength, courage of conviction of soldiers.
The memorial will consists of a building where pictures of great men and other information on the history of the armed forces will be displayed.
This will come up in Bengaluru at a vacant land next to the Indira Gandhi Fountain on Raj Bhavan Road.
"Every country in the world honors its heroes and their families. Bengaluru will be the first city and Karnataka the first state to do so," MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.
"The fact that since Independence, Governments have not deemed it fit to create a memorial either in Delhi or anywhere else is indeed a shameful thing for all of us. It is our solemn duty to uphold and honor those who have served and died," Chandrasekhar said.
Chandrasekhar also made it clear that only four eucalyptus trees will be impacted and 30 new trees are being planted in the Memorial Park area.
Environmentalists have been alleging that 30- 40 trees would be cut to construct the memorial.
He further said, "The Government of Karnataka has recognized the importance of building a memorial that we, as citizens must support to ensure that the untold stories valor and patriotism of our martyrs are told and passed down from generation to generation."
"This will inspire the younger generation and the instill the value of patriotism and national service," he added.
