300,000 iPads sold on first day
London, Apr 6 (ANI): Apple has sold over 300,000 iPads on the first day of its launch in the US, the company has revealed.
Buyers who got their hands on the new tablet computer on Saturday went on to download more than a million iPad applications from iTunes and 250,000 electronic books between them on the first day alone.
The firm said the sales figures included pre-ordered iPads as well as purchases on the day from Apple shops across the US.
"It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world - it's going to be a game changer," Sky News quoted Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs as saying.
"iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad," he added.
Apple's iPad, unveiled in January, is a lightweight media consumption device that tries to fuse the best attributes of a smartphone and a laptop.
It allows users to watch video, listen to music, play games, surf the web and read electronic books, as well as run most of the 150,000 applications made for the iPod Touch and the iPhone.
The 16-gigabyte wi-fi version has a US price tag of 499 dollars, while the 64GB Wi-Fi model costs 699 dollars.
Soon after going on sale, iPads quickly popped up on online auction website eBay at vastly inflated prices. (ANI)
