JK: Govt employees lathicharged

Jammu, Apr 5: The state of Jammu Kashmir is yet again on the boil as government employees were lathicharged by the police on Monday, Apr 5 while they were demonstrating for release of sixth Pay Commission arrears.

The employees took to streets demanding the state government to release the arrears. The demonstrating group were stopped by police batons when they tried to make their way towards the Secretariat.

As per reports, about 5000 employees gathered and shouted anti-government slogans when the police were prompted to act.

Government offices, civil secretariat, PSUs and autonomous bodies observed the strike for the third day.

The strike was called for by Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and Civil Secretariat Employees union (CSEU).

The striking employees are demanding for release of pay commission arrears and enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60.
