GSPC awards Rs 1060 crore project to L&T

Mumbai, Apr 5: Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) handed over a Rs 1060 Crores-worth offshore platform contract to the technology, engineering and construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

The project aims at accelerating production of first oil/gas by 2012 from the KG Basin, off the East Coast of India.

Besides the use of exotic materials to cater to demanding requirements, L&T will be responsible for several novel aspects in the survey, engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of the well head platform. Upon final commissioning, the facilities will add about 6 million standard cubic metres of hydrocarbon gas per day to India"s energy production, the company said in a statement released on Monday, Apr 5.

L&T bagged the project against the other bidders as the company has earned the reputation of being capable of dealing with challenging projects, it added after stating that KG basin is one of the most difficult and challenging places to work in due to high pressures and temperatures.

The company has decided to use upcoming manufacturing facilities at Kattupalli near Ennore and L&T Valdel engineering office in Chennai for the project besides utilising its resources and workforce across other centres.
