13 rescued a week after China mine mishap

Beijing, Apr 5: In a miraculous rescue, as many as 13 miners were pulled out of the flooded mine a week after the mishap.

According to state-run Xinhua news agency, nine people were pulled out alive on Sunday, Apr 4 night while four others were rescued on Monday, Apr 5 morning. The survivors were immediately sent to near-by hospitals.

As many as 140 people are believed to be still trapped in the pit. The recent rescues as well as certain sounds coming from the mine have given rise to hopes that more people could be pulled out alive.

The mishap took place on Sunday, Mar 28 when water gushed into a pit of the under-construction Wangjialing coal mine, with 261 miners inside it at the time.
