Rishikesh, Apr 5 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader LK Advani along with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Sunday launched the 'Clean Ganga' campaign in Rishikesh.

The campaign 'Sparsh Ganga' (Touch Ganga), supported by the state government, was also attended by the state Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.

Advani hailed the State Government's plans to make a law to keep the river Ganga clean.

"This initiative does not mean for river Ganga only. People, who are living on the banks of other rivers, should also start similar campaigns in other parts of country," he said.

Advani supported an ambitious plan to interlink rivers across India.

"I imagine all the rivers are pollution free. We had thought, even before us, in the Nehru-ji era, there was a plan to interlink river Ganga and river Cauvery. If all the rivers in the country become pollution free and if they can be interlinked after getting permission from state government, I think no region in the country will face scarcity of water," he said.

The event was a part of the series of programmes being organised by Parmarth Niketan, an ashram in Rishikesh, as a part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh mela. (ANI)
