Chennai, Mar 31: After Tamil Nadu government rejected her plea for premature release, Rajiv Gandhi's assassin Nalini Sriharan has decided to move the Madras High Court challenging the order.

Nalini, who has been a member of LTTE and had taken active part in the assassination of the former Prime Minister of India, is a life convict at the high security women's special prison at Vellore.

After visiting her in the prison on Tuesday, Mar 30, Nalini's lawyer P Pugazhendhi informed about the assassin's decision to move the high court against the government's order.

On Monday, Mar 29, the state government rejected Nalini's plea on the recommendations of the Prison Advisory Board (PAB). However, the lawyer claimed that the decision was based on a report from Royapetta Police Station, which stated that there would be a law and order problem in the area if Nalini was released.

Nalini's mother and brother have been staying here for over a decade yet there was no law and order problems, the lawyer said, adding that Nalini felt that it was wrong on the part of the government to base its decision on a inspector's report.
