Kolkata fire: 2 more bodies found, toll up at 36
Kolkata, Mar 29: Two more charred bodies were recovered from the fire-ravaged Stephen Court building here taking last week's fire tragedy toll to 36.
The bodies were recovered early on Monday, Mar 29 morning. The police and fire personnel are still searching for one more missing person.
“According to the FIRs registered with us, only one more person remains missing after the recovery of two more bodies today," city Commissioner of Police Gautam Mohan Chakraborty is quoted as saying in media reports.
Initially the death toll in the Tuesday, Mar 23 fire was put up at 24 while the fire personnel continued the search for the bodies.
The fire mishap has raised serious concerns of safety across the country.
On Sunday, Mar 28, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee demanded a probe into the fire accident to determine why it happened and if negligence was to be blamed for the loss of lives.
