Plea rejected, Sahahabuddin to face trial in jail
New Delhi, Mar 25: The plea filed by RJD leader Mohammed Sahahabuddin, who is facing trial in over 40 criminal cases, against Bihar government's decision to hold his trial in jail was on Thursday, Mar 25 turned down by the Supreme Court.
The apex court upheld the state government's decision to hold Sahahabuddin's criminal trial in the jail. The notification issued by the government and the Patna high court for shifting the venue of the trial was valid, it established.
A division bench headed by justice Dalveer Bhandari said even though the criminal cases require a public and open trial, in extraordinary circumstances it can be held within the jail premises.
