Earth Hour: Burj Khalifa to embrace darkness
Dubai, Mar 25: The recently unveiled Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, is going lose its golden aura on Saturday, Mar 27 as it joins the global campaign of energy conservation, the Earth Hour.
The 828-metre tower, formerly known as Dubai World, will embrace darkness for an hour between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
Burj Khalifa is the epitome of global cooperation and unwavering determination and, hence, perfectly reflected the campaign"s ideals, Earth Hour said in a statement.
Besides Burj Khafia, Burj Al Arab, Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Abu Dhabi Tower of Commerce and Hyatt Regency will be supporting the WWF initiative. Natural landmarks like Table Mountain and the Victoria Falls are also joining the 2010 campaign.
The massive participation from all corners of the world has comes as a major boost for the green crusade.
Saying that this is indicative of the world's resolve to save the planet, Earth Hour Executive Director Andy Ridley stated, “Earth Hour demonstrates the determination of the world"s citizens for a better and healthier world. It is an opportunity for the global community to speak in one voice on the issue of climate change."
