BJP bats for Big B, calls him victim of Cong feud

New Delhi, Mar 25: In a development that may only complicate things for Amitabh Bachchan, Bharatiya Janata Party( BJP) has rushed to rescue of the Bollywood icon in the wake of the controversy over his presence at the inauguration of Bandra-Worli sea-link.

BJP on Thursday, Mar 25 said that Bachchan was caught in the middle of this row due to some 'feud' in Congress and 'fear' of the Gandhi family.

“The Bandra-Worli sea-link is a national property and certainly not a property of the Congress party. Every Indian has a right to be there. Undoubtedly, Amitabh Bachchan is the nation"s pride and a distinguished Mumbaikar who has full credentials to be the chief guest there," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said criticising Congress for creating a controversy.

“The fear of the Gandhi family and their likes and dislikes loom so large that no sooner it would become a threat to democracy. This is narrow-minded bigotry of the Congress party," Mr Rudy added.

The issue started on Wednesday, Mar 24 when the actor showed up at the inauguration ceremony of the sea link which was to be inaugurated in the hands of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. His presence, however, did not fit in well with a faction in the Mumbai Congress.

The actor is associated closely with Samajwadi Party and its former leader Amar Singh. Bachachan recently also donned the avatar of the brand ambassador for Gujarat, under the BJP government of Narendra Modi.

“Bachchan"s mere association as brand ambassador of Gujarat is being vilified by the Congress. A national icon is being derided for petty political gains," Rudy remarked.
