Maoists kill policeman in a shootout in J'khand

Ranchi, Mar 23: A policeman was killed in a fierce encounter with the Maoists in Jharkhand on Tuesday, Mar 23, morning.

The shoot out took place at 1:30 am in Jharkhand's Sareikela-Kharsawan district between 50 naxals and 30 policemen after the rebels fired indiscriminately on a police patrolling team near Chouka police station.

One policeman, identified as Kalicharan Bodra was killed in the firing.

Hours after the shoot out, Maoists blew up railway tracks in Bihar, leading to the derailment of the Rajdhani express near Gaya station.

A goods train, passing through Mumbai-Howrah route in Orissa was also derailed after two blasts at a place between Birsa and Bongomunda stations in the wee hours in the morning.

Trains passing through Naxal-affected areas have been put on high alert.

The CPI (Maoists) had called for a 48-hours bandh in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and three districts of Maharashtra - Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
