US speaks like a fox but acts as a wolf: Iran
Tehran, Mar 22: Obama's New Year message to the people of Iran seems to have failed to impress the Iranian leaders as Iran's supreme leader said that US President Barack Obama cannot be trusted despite his friendly gestures, state media reported.
"The US president's message speaks of normalising relations but in practice plotted against the Islamic Republic. The words contradict the actions," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech in the religious city of Mashad in north-eastern Iran.
On Saturday, Mar 20, the US President had said that despite the differences between the two countries, US would continue in its commitment to ensure a hopeful future for the people of Iran.
Khamenie lashed out at US for its 'arrogant attitude' and accused the Obama administration for conspiring against the Islamic regime while 'talking about peace and friendship'.
"Sometimes the US speaks like a fox but acts as a wolf," added the leader who has, according to the Constitution, the final say on all state affairs.
Despite Obama's attempt to repair diplomatic ties, the President has so far failed to see a breakthrough in the ties which had been strained for the last three decades.
Earlier on Mar 21, Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad showed no sign of warming up to US in his New Year's message.
"Enemies have tried to weaken our country but they have failed and in the coming year we will stand even more firmly against them than before," Ahmadinejad said.
"We will remove obstacles and turn any moves (by the West) into new opportunities," the president said.
"Nobody should worry because the future is ours," Ahmadinejad continued.
