Bangalore, Mar 19: After taking three days to translate the papers submitted by Tamil Nadu police in connection with the Swami Nithyananda sex scandal case, Karnataka police is in pursuit of the absconding godman, against whom a fresh FIR has been filed in the Bidadi police station.

On Thursday, Mar 18, Bidadi police filed an FIR against Nithyananda under various sections of CrPC including 295 (a), 420, 376, 377, 506 (b) and 120 (b). The charges include cheating, rape, unnatural sex and outraging religious sentiments.

According to a media report, Ramanagaram district police have also formed a team to trace Swami Nithyananda and deputy superintendent of police (Ramanagaram sub-division) Devaraj will be heading the team.

Quoting District superintendent of police SB Bisanahalli, a DNA report said that based on a complaint filed by K Lenin of Athur in Salem district.

"In his complaint, Lenin had accused Nithyananda of misbehaving with women and forcing them into performing 'indecent" acts with him," the officer is quoted as saying.

Swami Nithyananda became the latest victim of a sex scandal when a video showing him in compromising position with Tamil actress Ranjitha surfaced on Mar 2. This led to massive protests in both the states. The swamiji, who is reportedly in Haridwar attending the Kumbh Mela, has taken to maun wrath (penance of silence) on the issue.

Earlier there were speculations that the Karnataka police will be transferring the case to CID due to the complex nature of the case.
