Russian woman found dead in a hotel room in Goa
Panaji, Mar 18: In a recent attack on foreign tourists in Goa, a Russian woman was dead in her hotel room at Arapora area in North Goa on Wednesday night, police said.
The victim identified as Elena Velichq, who was staying alone, was found dead in her room at around 10 pm.
Velichq had traveled alone to India on a tourist visa six days ago and was going to return back to Russia on Mar 24, Police inspector Manjunath Desai said.
The hotel staff informed Anjuna police about the incident after they opened her room with a master key when she failed to respond to their calls on Mar 17 evening.
"The door was locked from inside," Desai said.
Police said that the body has been sent for postmortem.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Russian consulate said that the way in which the body was found at the hotel room indicated foul play.
The incident is the add to the list of crimes against Russian in the recent past.
Earlier on Dec 2009, a Russian girl was raped by a local politician John Fernandes and most recently a nine-year-old Russian girl was raped on Jan 2010.
