1Jawan killed, 2 injured in Srinagar shootout
Srinagar, Mar 16: In fourth militant attack in Lal Chowk on Tuesday, Mar 16, one Jawan was killed and at least four persons, including two CRPF personnel were wounded.
Police said that the militants entered the Koker Bazar area of Lal Chowk and open fired at CRPF personnels patrolling the area. One personnel was killed while two others along with two civilians were injured in the gun fire.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
Following the attack, police and security forces have cordoned off the area to arrest the militants involved in the shootout.
The incident created an uproar among the crowds and panic-striken shopkeepers abandoned their shops as they ran for cover.
Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of the city, has faced similar strikes in the past couple of months in the area.
On March 14, militants attacked a CRPF patrol with grenades near a police station in downtown Srinagar, in which one jawan awas killed and five others were injured.
