Inflation surges to 9.89 pc in Feb 2010
New Delhi, Mar 15: Led by the excise duty hike on fuel announced in Union Budget 2010, and increase in prices of food items, Inflation surged to 9.89 per cent as against the Jan 2010 rate of 8.56 per cent.
In Feb 2010, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced an increase of CET by Re 1/litre
which led to rise in fuel prices. Petrol prices went up by 11.73 per cent while high-speed diesel prices surged 9 per cent.
As per the official data released on Monday, Mar 15, the overall fuel index has gone up by 1.5 per cent.
While sugar prices went up bu 55.47 per cent in Feb 2010 from Feb 2009, potato price rose by 30 per cent and pulses by 35.58 per cent.
