Sanjay Dutt cleared of terror charges
New Delhi, Mar 12: With the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) leaving Sanjay Dutt's acquittal unchallenged in the Supreme Court, the Bollywood star is finally free from the terror charges in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bombing.
The CBI has challenged the acquittal of 50 accused by Mumbai anti-terror court in 2007. None of the 50 lawsuits pertained to an appeal against Dutt's acquittal.
Even though Dutt was cleared of terror charges, the Bollywood star has been convicted for possessing illegal weapons in the run up to the 1993 terror attacks. He was awarded a sentence of six years jail term in the Arms Act case.
Dutt has challenged his conviction in the Supreme Court.
