Bachchan Jr urges India to take part in Earth Hour
New Delhi, Mar 11: As the world gets set to observe Earth House 2010 on Mar 27, Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan has been appointed as Indian brand ambassador to urge his countrymen to take part in the global green event.
"People really need to be educated about about power conservation. I pledge my and my family's support to this initiative. I will, in my power, do whatever to save electricity and will request my friends in the film industry to shut down shootings in studios during the Earth Hour," Abhishek said on Wednesday, Mar 10.
The Earth Hour campaign was started by the WWF. The campaign, which calls for people to switch off lights for an hours to conserve energy, was first observed in Sydney in 2007.
The 2010 Earth Hour has been scheduled for Mar 27 between 8:30pm and 9:30 pm.
In 2009, Delhi reportedly managed to save as much as 700 MW of electricity. Now, the 2010 campaign sees support from 15 cities across India including Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
