Sydney, Mar 11: Australia is in the news again but for the wrong reason. A Canadian man on a wheelchair was attacked by two teenagers on Tuesday, Mar 9.
Calling it to be an apparent attempt of robbery, police said that 35-year-old Heath Proden was assaulted in an elevator at a Sydney train station.
Police said that the attackers punched Heath in the face and kicked him. He was repeatedly hit on the head with a metal bar which was taken off his wheel chair.
The teenagers, who have been charged with robbery and assault have been denied bail.
Heath, who was visiting his girlfriend in Sydney was returning from a country music concert when he was attacked.
Meanwhile, Heath's mother Shellan Proden expressed shock at the news of the attack.
"I can't believe a human being would do that to someone else," Proden said Wednesday from her home in Winnipeg Beach, 60 kilometres north of Winnipeg. "It's like a savage."
