Kanpur: 9 killed,5 hurt in tractor-train collision
Kanpur, Mar 9: In a major collision between tractor-trolley and a passenger train near Uttaripura in Kanpur district, at least nine people, including eight teenagers were killed, while 15 other were injured on Tuesday, Mar 9.
Police said that the mishap occured on early Tuesday, Mar 9, morning when the tractor-trolley, which was on its way to Jagdishpur from Uddhavpur Nawada collided with the passenger train coming from Lucknow to Kasganj at an unmanned railway crossing near Shivrajpur, about 50km from Kanpur.
The Superintendent of police (Rural) Lal Bahadur said that 9 people, including one woman, four girls aged between 14-18 years and four boys in the age group of 16 to 18 years were killed in the incident, as the tractor-trolley in which they were traveling were completely smashed.
However, the train passengers were unhurt in the collision, Public Relations Officer of North-Eastern Railway Amit Singh said in a news agency report.
Kanpur deputy inspector of police Prem Prakash said that four of the injured were in a critical condition and have been admitted to Kanpur Medical College.
Prakash informed that the driver of the tractor-trolley had fled from the scene after the incident and efforts were being made to trace him.
Senior railway and police officials have rushed to the scene of incident.
