BJP fights for the Women's quota bill
New Delhi, Mar 9: Ahead of the Parliament session over the Women's Reservation Bill, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women MPs and workers held demonstrations outside the building here pressing for the passage of the bill.
The bill, which reserves 33 per cent reservation for the women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, has seen backing from the BJP and the Left front while SP, RJD and BSP are keen on blocking the bill.
The bill was expected to be passed on Monday, Mar 8. This, however, was made impossible by the opposing faction which successfully blocked the bill by resorting to pressure tactics and even shameful unruly behaviour.
The opposing parties are demanding for a 'quota within quota' for the Dalits, minorities and backward classes.
However, the BJP wants the bill to be passed in the present form.
