Obama to cut US nuclear arsenal: Report
New York: US President Barack Obama is making final decisions on a broad new nuclear strategy for the United States, a media report said on Monday, Mar 1.
According to The New York Times report, the new policy will permanently reduce the US nuclear arsenal by thousands of weapons.
The report said that Obama would set out his new policy in a document the Nuclear Posture Review.
The new strategy entails that the US develop no further nuclear weapons.
"Obama would be resolving these questions in the coming week," a senior administration official was quoted by the report as saying.
The official further said, "It will be clear in the document that there will be very dramatic reductions — in the thousands — as relates to the stockpile."
