US diplomats to visit for talks on ties: China

Beijing, Feb 28: Two US diplomats will visit Beijing to discuss the two countries' relations, which have been strained recently on several issues.

Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Senior White House Asia adviser Jeffrey Bader will be in China on Tuesday, Mar 2, a statement posted on China's Foreign Ministry Web site quoted spokesman Qin Gang as saying

According to the statement, the US asked for the meeting but didn't say which Chinese officials would be meeting with them.

Ties between the world's largest and third-largest economies have been strained after the US announced planned arms sales to Taiwan and President Barack Obama met with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama this month.
