IITian held after girl found dead in Shimla hotel

Shimla, Feb 28: An IIT student has been arrested for his alleged role in the death of a female IIT student, who was found murdered in a hotel room in Shimla.

22-year-old, female tourist, student of IIT Delhi was found murdered in a hotel in Shimla on Saturday, Feb 27.

Gaurav Verma, a third year student at IIT Roorkee, checked into the hotel along with a girl around 3 am. They had come from Delhi in a taxi.

According to reports, when the two did not come out of room during the day, the hotel staff got suspicious and found the room locked from outside.

The room was opened in the presence of the police and the girl found murdered while the boy was missing.

"A woman was found lying in a pool of blood in Rashik Hotel in Kaithu area of the city," Shimla Superintendent of Police R M Sharma said

A team of the state forensic team said prima facie it seems the boy had consumed liquor and stabbed the girl to death.
