Two former Army Generals charged in 2003 plot to topple Turkish Govt.
Washington, Feb. 27 (ANI): In what is being seen as a potential stand-off between Turkey's ruling party and the armed forces, two retired Turkish generals have been charged over an alleged 2003 plot to overthrow the government.
Among the 33 suspects charged in the case, Cetin Dogan, the former head of Turkey's First Army, and Engin Alan, a former Special Forces commander, are the most senior.
While the military has denied any coup plot, the case has increased tensions between the government and the armed forces.
According to Turkish media, Alan led a successful operation to bring captured Kurdish separatist leader Abdullah Ocalan back to Turkey. (ANI)
