One in 10 foreign students in Britain sponsored by bogus college
London, Feb. 27 (ANI): Nearly one in 10 foreign students in Britain was sponsored by a bogus college in 2009, according to new research.
Citing the official figures for the number of colleges shut down, the Conservative party has slammed the Gordon Brown Government for failing to keep a check on immigration cheats.
"We need radical change, including deposits for overseas students and a ban on moving from course to course," the Daily Express quoted Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling, as saying.
Last year, 30,000 students had their visas sponsored by colleges, which the authorities either closed on finding them bogus or suspended for breaching their duties.
The Government said that just because a college has been shut does not mean that students there are not genuine. (ANI)
