WB: Police officer, Maoist killed in encounter
Bankura, Feb 25: Amidst the ceasfire offer by the Maoists, Maoists menace continue in West Bengal as a police officer was killed in a gun battle with the Naxals.
An attack on a local CPI-M leader Tarashankar Patra by the group of armed Maoists late on Wednesday, Feb 24, led to a gun fight between the security forces and the rebels, as the news of the attack brought the police and joint forces to the spot.
The security forces were later joined by another team of joint forces from Lalgarh.
Talking about the casualties,superintendent of police, Vishal Garg in news agency report said that the inspector-in-charge of Sarenga police station, Rabi Lochan Mitra and a Maoist cadre Dule were killed in the encounter.
Garg said that another Maoist Mithun was wounded in the gun battle. He has been taken to Sarenga hospital.
The injured CPI-M leader Patra has been admitted to Bankura Sammilani Medical College.
