TCS passport project to begin by end-Mar 2010
Mumbai, Feb 25: Tata Consultancy Services' Passport Seva Project, which aims at issuing passports in three days, will be launched by end of Mar 2010, a government official informed on the sidelines of a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event.
This comes after three internal deadlines were missed and a announcement in this regard is expected to be made soon.
"TCS Passport Seva Project is all set to be launched by end-March. The infrastructure is ready, software problems have been fixed and security issues are in place for the project to start," Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Additional Secretary, S R Rao told media persons.
TCS bagged the 1,000-crore project in Oct 2008. The project, which is based on a public-private partnership model, aims at providing passports quickly to Indian citizens.
However, the project faced a lot of road blocks since Jun 2009 due to technical glitches, software problems and physical infrastructure troubles.
