Sushma Swaraj lashes out at Pawar over price rise
New Delhi, Feb 25 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Thursday lashed out at Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, blaming him directly for the rise in sugar prices.
The Lok Sabha today witnessed a heated debate over price rise as the Opposition leader calling Pawar the 'Sugar King of India'.
She wanted a high level probe into the alleged 'sugar scandal', saying Pawar is responsible for all these mess.
Swaraj also demanded the setting up of a parliamentary committee over the price rise.
"It is the result of the failure of the government's economic policies: Wheat, rice, sugar, dal price have doubled in the past few months. The agriculture minister failed to create buffer stocks when we have surplus stock of sugar," she said.
Sushma Swaraj said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should compare the inflation rate and the growth rate.
Her attack comes in the wake of tabling of the Economic Survey in Parliament today, which has warned that overall prices would go up further in the next few months and partially blamed poor food management policies for double-digit food inflation. (ANI)
