Govt allows 3 operators for 3G services
New Delhi, Feb 25: As the invitation for the applications from mobile operators is underway, it has come to light the government has allowed three operators for 3G services in most circles.
The Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for the 3G spectrum auction in 22 circles indicates three private players for most of the circles, including four metros — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
However, four operators will be allowed in the five states of Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir.
Successful bidders can start the 3G services on commercial basis from Sep 1, 2010, the document said.
The government began inviting applications prospective bidders on Thursday, Feb 25, which will be continued till Mar 19.
Auctioning of the 3G spectrum will be held on Apr 9, 2010.
