Under-privileged children meet Parliamentarians to demand education for all

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): Under-privileged children from various states met the parliamentarians here today to press for a charter on education for all.

Representatives of National Coalition took this initiative and were joined in their endeavor by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Parliament Forum on Education, All India Federation of Teachers' Organisation and other civil society organizations.

Mukesh Kumar, a volunteer from Bachpan Bachao Andolan said we met Parliamentarians so that our voice is taken to the President of India and every one gets education.

"There are children from various states like Bihar, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. These children are meeting the parliamentarians because the state of education in our country is very grave and Bachpan Bachao Andolan is pressing to make such a law so that the state of education improves in the country and every one gets equal right to education in the country," said Mukesh Kumar.

Mahinder, an under-privileged child said that they were pressing for immediately enactment of Right of education to free and compulsory education act 2009 so that every one gets equal right to education.

"We are pressing to immediately enact the act which was passed in 2009. The child labourers should be rescued and every one should get equal right to education," said Mahinder.

The Right to education Act 2009, provides for education to all the children between the ages of six to fourteen.

Representatives presented their demands that all the children up to 18 years should be included in the definition of this Act, 6 percent of gross domestic product and 20 percent of the government expenditure should be prioritized for education and the Act should be amended suitably to implement Common School System.
