Peru: 2 buses collide, injured trapped in wreckage
Lima, Feb 23: A remote stretch of highway in northeast Peru turned into a dramatic rescue scene as police and fire fighters tried to pull out injured people trapped in the wreckage of two buses, which collided killing as many as 38 people on Monday, Feb 22.
The police said that 58 people have been injured in the accident which took place when two buses collided head on.
The casualty numbers were those confirmed as of Feb 22 afternoon.
The buses from Crisolito and America Express lines collided shortly before dawn on the Panamerican Highway between Rio Hondo and Viru, 290 miles northeast of the capital, the police informed.
No foreign tourist was killed in the accident.
