EFR chief suspended after criticizing WB Govt

Kolkata, Feb 21: Eastern Frontier Rifles' Special IG Benoy Chakraborty has been suspended for openly blaming the West Bengal government for the Maoist attack.

The suspension orders were issued by the Chief Minister's office as the EFR is a paramilitary force of the West Bengal police.

On Saturday, Feb 20, Chakraborty accused the district police chief Manoj Verma of being "fully responsible" for the incident which took place on Feb 15.

"From the location of the camp and the poor infrastructure and security provided, one can conclude the EFR is being misused and ill-treated," Chakraborty said.

He further said, "I have on several occasions said it was not the proper place for the camp and wanted it to be shifted. I told the SP also. But he did not shift the camp."

"There was total lack of security at the EFR camp and the jawans were subjected to negligence by the authorities."

24 EFR personnel were killed in the during the Maoist attack on the Silda camp in the district.
