J'Khand: Maoists release abducted BDO

New Delhi, Feb 20: The much awaited release of the kidnapped Block Development Officer (BDO), Prashant Kumar Layek release by the Maoists finally took place on Friday, Feb 19.

"Block Development Officer (BDO) Prasant Layak was released near Haryan village in East Singhbhum district," Jharkhand police spokesman VH Deshmukh said here.

Deshmukh said the officer have been taken to Ghatshila police station.

After his release, Layek informed that he was "looked after well, properly treated and served the food the Maoists used to eat".

"They never misbehaved with me and more than a dozen Maoist guerrillas took care," he said

The Kidnappping of Layek by four armed Maoist (CPI-Maoist) from Dalbhumgarh block of East Singhbhum district on Saturday, Feb 13, had the government running round the clock for his release, as the Maoists demanded the release of 14 men, including three of their comrades.

Just when the government agreed to their demands, the Naxals on Thursday, Feb 18 came up with new demands.

In its new demands Maoists sought immediate release of jailed villagers who have been branded as Maoists sympathisers, including the release of civil defence group chief.

The Naxals had also demanded the arrest of the Nagrik Suraksha Samiti (NSS) president Shankar Hembrom and other. The NSS was formed to deal with the Maoists activities at the village level.
